Abstract (English)

"The significance of the donatio in 1994 of 138 works by 42 First Nations artists from the Estate of Helen E. Band to the Thunder Bay Art Gallery is considerable. It is based on the quality, diversity and the early collecting date of much o the work included for ironically, Helen E. Band began collecting before the Thunder Bay Art Gallery and its permanent collection were established.[...] The collection is exceptional because it includes substantive work of excellent quality by contemporary First Nations artists, particularly from the 1970s and the early 1980s." -- Janet Clark, page 1.
