Abstract (English)The contributors discuss photography and a 19th-century attempt to supersede natural vision; investigate the establishment of genocidal stereotypes through fictional representation of the American Indian. Also discussed: AIDS and deconstruction, surrealist photography of the body and desire; and "the cult of art restoration". Hagiography in Huysmans, "demoniacal hysteria" in Baudelaire's time, and Nietzsche's metaphor of the camera obscura are considered. In a transcript of a 1980 lecture, Foucault examines conceptions of self-knowledge. Contributions by five visual artists. Brief biographical notes on all contributors. 170 bibl. ref.
