Abstract (English)

Plous' essay addresses some of the problems associated with technology in art; she sketches a history of works in which artists have forefronted technology and problematised use-value. Doll's essay elaborates on the topic of the artist's improbable machine, while Shamash stresses some of the utopic promises to which artists have been drawn in developing technologies. Includes excerpts from an interview with Raul Ruiz. Biographical notes on 60 international artists. 11 bibl. ref.
