Abstract (English)

This exhibition catalogue documents the work of 50 American artists on the theme of repulsion and desire. While Taylor takes on the general question of abjection in contemporary art, Ben-Levi's addresses the social context of a return to "family values" alongside sadomasochism. Jones writes on the transgressive female in the 1960s ans 1970s. Houser discusses gay and lesbian self-representation in film and video. Circa 100 bibl. ref.
