Kelly, Gemey. Riduan Tomkins. Halifax, NS: Dalhousie Art Gallery, 1986.
Tomkins' figurative works in this exhibition are characterized by lushly painted fields of colour inhabited by diminutive figures, angels and animals. The work of the Dorset-born artist is seen to emerge from the British figurative school of painting. Pictorial space illusionism, symbolism and the influence of Giacometti are central considerations.
