Abstract (English)

Catalogue for an exhibition that documents the cultural traditions of contemporary Secwepemc (Shuswap) people, and explores the intersection of photography as research tool/artistic representation. Contains texts that provide a brief history of the Secwepemc, trace the history of Secwepemc photography (including photographs by ethnographers and anthropologists), and describe how the exhibition’s subject matter was arranged. Topics addressed include cultural differences between the Secwepemc and other Aboriginal peoples, and the oppression of First Nations people in residential schools.
