Abstract (English)

Roy’s text uses narrative and book conventions, like the dedication, preface, and index, to form an incomplete compendium of "x" words that recalls dictionaries and encyclopaedias. Concerned with the deferred and the repressed within the binding regulation of language and ideology, Roy focuses on the letter "x" since it has traditionally signified an unknown or variable element. The open-ended nature of "x" allows Roy to unbind the book from within, allowing accidents of meaning to surface. 73 bibl. ref.
