Abstract (English)

"With a nod to Arthur C. Clarke’s so-called third law, thus began Vtape’s Curatorial Incubator v.6 : THE DARK ARTS : magic and intuition. With an aim to uncover the hidden connections between video artworks that speak to the unknown, the uncanny, the other worldly, we put out a call for proposals and were flooded with many excellent applications. From these, four participants were selected – Darryl Bank, Leigh Fisher, Erik Martinson and Matthew Hyland. Throughout the late summer and early fall, they scoured the Vtape archives and beyond, seeking works that employ the surreal, that evoke voodoo, that address the unknown. It was a rich and varied journey for each of our incubatees." -- p. 3.
