Pornography in the Urban WorldTools Gagnon, Jean. Pornography in the Urban World. Toronto, Ont.: Art Metropole, 1986.
Abstract (English)"Pornography in the Urban World analyzes men's relationship to the various kinds of commercially available, mainstream pornography: film, video, magazines, strip clubs and peep-shows. Utilizing semiotics, psychoanalysis and current film theory, Gagnon carefully explores the optical constructions behind the ideology of pornography, and the manner in which men and women are positioned within this 'regime of the look'. Pornography is seen here as a political and ideological production which both reflects and restricts the social and sexual relationships between the sexes. It is the book's intention to open its readers to the still 'unoccupied territories of the pleasure of being' restricted by pornographic practice." -- Dust jacket.
