Abstract (English)

Seven authors consider how the concept of touch figures in contemporary art. Emphasis is placed upon the ways in which new media technologies affect the body's surfaces and depths. Issues of subjectivity, identity, desire, narrative, alterity, sentience and abjection are discussed in relation to the gap between tactile and visual experience. Appendix contains French versions of essays by Lageira and Ross. Biographical notes on contributors. 132 bibl. ref.
