Abstract (English)

This catalogue documents a collaborative project which explores the transcultural nature of cultural histories and spiritual practices by focusing on tea ceremonies from around the world. Fisher's description of the project's performative events - which combined interactive video installations, paintings, books, archival photographs, furniture, and teaware - suggests that the exhibition's engagement with the ritual aspects of taking tea is a dialogic metaphor for communication. Snyder's essay focuses on the Japanese Art of Tea. Holtzman provides a general history of Tea from different cultures. Vincent Sze describes Chinese methods of tea preparation. Statement by artists. Biographical notes. 18 bibl. ref.
