Abstract (English)

This substantial publication is essentially a retrospective in print form of the artist's video investigations related to popular television. Media appropriation as carried out by Birnbaum throws into question not only the economic and ideological power structures of television but also various "high art practices" revolving around authorship, ownership, object-status and permanence of the work of art. Issues related to structural conventions (narrative, editing/montage and special effects) are also of key importance. Biographical notes. Bibl. 5 p.
