Abstract (English)

Dobie's analysis of Pepper's work calls attention to the essentialism underlying categories of woman and femininity by discussing how conceptions of the female body as a socially constructed entity are affected by language. Shaw suggests that Trkulja's multimedia constructions challenge gendered notions of beauty by questioning the cultural conditioning of women's appearance, self-image and identity.
