Abstract (English)

This publication contains papers presented at a conference in Barcelona on the subject of the contemporary museum. Buchloh begins by reflecting on the transformation of the museum from an institution of cultural reception and conservation to one of cultural production. Hoet focuses on the museum director's role in organizing exhibitions. Cladders describes his collaboration with the architect Hans Hollein in building the Contemporary Art Museum of Monchengladbach. Ammann discusses the problems of setting up a new museum of contemporary art. Debbaut argues for the autonomy of the individuals who develop museum policy and the identity of a collection. Fuchs deals with the problems of beginning a new museum in an era when the situation of art is extremely unclear.
