Abstract (English)

Making references to psychoanalysis and philosophy, Ross examines Smith's works - sculptures, drawings and installations depicting a fragmented body - according to notions which deal both with their materiality and their scope of meaning. Ambivalence and coexisting opposites, the skin as protection and container, abjection, randomness and the curio cabinet are alternately evoked by the author. Graham presents the artist's biographic itinerary, complete with excerpts from interviews. Cover with inner flap documenting numerous pieces. 48 bibl. ref.
