Abstract (English)Young Man's indepth examination of contemporary work by First Nations artists is presented in a writing style which combines historical analysis with personal anecdote. Focusing on how Western stereotypes of First Nations people define their history and art, the author offers a wide ranging critique of Western anthropological and ethnographic practices of exhibiting contemporary/traditional Native art and culture. Concepts of discovery, conquest and primitivism are also discussed in relation to Aboriginal myths and legends. Biographical notes. Circa 69 bibl. ref. Edit this item (login required): |
