Abstract (English)

Catalogue bringing together the works of 25 artists who have chosen the Atlantic provinces as a context for their practice, in a presentation which claims to be representative of the region. R. Benn retraces the preparation of this sporadic and promotional event while paying homage to its initiator Marion McCain. Basing herself on the historical uses of the concept of "cabinet of the world" in order to explain the diversity of the arts involved here, Garvey contextualizes the participants' production and outlines the main stakes of corporal or cultural identity, the pair nature/artifice, the under-representation of formal abstraction, the presence of realism and conceptualism. Catalogue qui réunit les oeuvres de 25 artistes ayant choisi les provinces maritimes pour cadre de leur pratique, l'ensemble se voulant représentatif de cette région. R. Benn retrace les étapes de l'événement ponctuel et promotionnel tout en rendant hommage à son instigatrice, Marion McCain. Partant des utilisations historiques du concept de "cabinet du monde" pour expliquer la diversité des arts dont il est ici question, Garvey contextualise la production des exposants et en fait ressortir les principaux enjeux, soient l'identité corporelle ou culturelle, le couple nature-artifice, la sous-représentation de l'abstraction formelle, le réalisme et le conceptualisme.
