Abstract (English)This catalogue presents the outcome of a photographic mission begun in 1988 by three major photographers with the intent of making known or revisiting the heritage of Olmsted, a famous North American landscape architect. Lambert's introduction relates Olmsted's designs with the photographers' multiplied viewpoints through a phenomenological approach. The documents also contains two essays: one by Costantini, using an archeological vision, and the other by Szarkowski, addressing the art of gardens as being subjected to continual transformations. Excerpts from interviews with all three photographers, conducted by D. Harris in June 1995, attest to the complexity of their personalized work. Includes a list of sites chosen for the mission. Brief biographical notes. 10 bibl. ref.
