Abstract (English)

Catalogue to accompany Grossmann’s exhibition of mixed media works incorporating found photographs of convicts from the 1930s and 1940s. Edelstein compares the artist’s exploration of criminal identity with Andy Warhol’s Most Wanted Men series, and suggests that the photo-paintings critique stereotypical forms of representation by addressing issues of race, gender and private/public space. Yeager’s analysis of the artist’s work considers notions of crime, punishment and imprisonment from sociological and criminological perspectives. List of works. Biographical notes. 36 bibl. ref.
