Euan MacdonaldTools Arning, Bill; Ritchie, Christina; Salzman, Gregory; Stebbins, Joan. Euan Macdonald. Lethbridge, Alta: Southern Alberta Art Gallery, 1999.
Abstract (English)This catalogue contains four essays on Macdonald’s work (including previously published texts by H. U. Obrist and G. Salzman). Obrist’s brief text on Macdonald’s Brakestand video consists of excerpts from interviews with P. Virilio (on the issue of monumentality) and G. Metzger (on the issue of time). Arning considers themes of stillness and motion in the artist’s Plan series of drawings, City series of paintings, and video works. Ritchie’s descriptive analysis of Macdonald’s videos based on banal events – cars crossing an intersection, planes flying overhead, etc. – draws attention to the multiple senses of time within the interval between perception and meaning. Salzman’s text focuses on relationships between sentience/abstraction and mobility/stasis in the artist’s work. List of works. Brief biographical notes. 1 bibl. ref.
