Claudio Rivera-Seguel : LUZ=LUZTools Collins, Curtis Joseph; Zomosa, Ximena; Rivera-Seguel. Claudio Rivera-Seguel : LUZ=LUZ. Fredericton, NB: La Galerie d'art Beaverbrook/Beaverbrook Art Gallery, 1999.
Abstract (English)“LUZ=LUZ” is an exhibition catalogue/artist’s book to accompany an international project by Rivera-Seguel, consisting of public actions and site-oriented installations presented in Fredericton (New Brunswick), Paris (France) and Santiago (Chile). Collins’ curatorial essay provides biographical information on the Chilean-Canadian artist, and situates the “LUZ=LUZ” project within the context of Rivera-Seguel’s previous works. Collins suggests the artist’s nomadic/anti-institutional practice subverts “the machinery of Western art history” by critiquing the hierarchical structures of mainstream art institutions. Includes elliptical texts by Zomosa (on themes of departure, nomadism, dreaming and travel), juxtaposed with brief statements by Rivera-Seguel (on a wide range of topics, including: art, culture, aesthetics, public space, reality and society). Collins’ text is in English only. Texts by Zomosa and Rivera-Seguel in English, Spanish and a loose-leaf French translation. The publication also includes numerous artist’s pages, as well as detailed documentation of 11 works produced between 1992 and 1997. Biographical notes. 1 bibl. ref.
