Abstract (English)This richly illustrated book documenting Thai artist Rawanchaikul’s solo and collaborative projects contains: texts, correspondence, photographs, video stills, drawings, comic strips and inserted objects (including a postcard, a piece of loincloth and a comic book published on the occasion of the 1998 Sydney Biennale). Michaelsen suggests Rawanchaikul’s community-oriented projects are based on themes of racial and cultural identity, and often use the look of Asian pop culture and cinema posters. Her descriptive analysis of selected projects based on the “interlacing of art and life,” focuses on the following subjects: COMMotion (social disturbance), COMMunication (exchange of information), COMMon (sharing and belonging), COMMunity, COMModity (the everyday) and COMMute (mobility). Includes two transcribed interviews: Rawanchaikul and M. Ushiroshoji on the Murozumi Danchi Art Project; Rawanchaikul (with R. Tiravanija) and H.U. Olburist on the “Cities on the Move” collaborative projects. Biographical notes. 27 bibl. ref. Edit this item (login required): |
