Abstract (English)

Catalogue to accompany an exhibition comprised of three installations by Miller: “Papa” (1995), “Chord” (1996-97) and “Chorus” (1997). Todd’s analysis of the selected works by artist created between 1989-95 focuses on “the relationship between the human body and the artefact, the body and the word.” Her reflections on the artist’s repetitive, labour intensive process foreground issues of absence, memory, mourning and death (primarily as they concern Miller’s identity as a Jewish artist). Farrell’s curatorial essay on the installations in the exhibition also deals with Miller’s relationship to Judaism. Concepts of ritual, repetition and the body are discussed. Brief biographical notes on the artist and authors. 23 bibl. ref.
