Abstract (English)

A small-format exhibition catalogue to accompany White’s “Crawford Street” series of photographs, based on night shots of home interiors where people are engaged in domestic activities. Ghaznavi situates the series of staged photographs within the context of previous photo-based works by the artist – “Photopaintings” (1990), “Beacons” (1996), “Looking Glass” (1996) and the “Mattress Suite” (1998). She suggests the artist’s work critiques dualisms (photography/painting, nature/culture and public/private) by placing emphasis on the viewer’s role in the creation of meaning.
