Abstract (English)

A publication to accompany MacLeod’s exhibition of landscape photographs. Laurin’s text traces the evolution of landscape photography, while calling attention to the artist’s interest in relationships between photographic representation, Frontier ideologies and myths of the American West. Subjects of colonization, Romanticism and Manifest Destiny are discussed. Laurin’s descriptive analysis of selected works by MacLeod focuses on the influence of Timothy O’Sullivan, Ansel Adams and the Bechers (Bernd and Hilla). Includes list of works.
