Abstract (English)

Catalogue produced by the Kitchener-Waterloo Art Gallery on the occasion of an exhibition of 53 works given to the institution by Burtynsky. Roenisch's descriptive analysis underscores relations between nature, people and industry in the artist's large-scale photographs. The author draws attention to how the work raises questions concerning notions of beauty, the ethical position of the photographer, and the contradiction of aestheticizing the abject.
