Abstract (English)

Turner briefly surveys Lum’s career to provide a context for his latest work, a series of independent business signs with personalized messages. The author argues that the signs combine thematic elements of the earlier work, such as portraiture and the combination of the personal and the political. A prolonged comparison with Benjamin underscores the incipient (or twilit) Marxism in the work. List of works. Biographical notes. 8 bibl. ref.
