Abstract (English)

Kiendl considers the divergent ways in which Fernandes and Werner explore failure, latent emotions, and resistance to the power of language. He concludes that both Werner's portrait paintings and Fernandes' installation of fears and fixing complicate the idea of winning or losing through "empathetic transmutation of pathos and desire." List of works. Biographical notes.
