Abstract (English)

Garvey presents two artists whose work draws from historical painting traditions, including narration and figuration. She compares Hartland-Rowe's fragmentary scenes to Renaissance frescoes, while Wiebe’s cutesy figures recall the Baroque. Garvey and the artists discuss, among other topics, humour, morality, contemporary art practice, and the apocalypse, in relation to painting. List of works. Biographical notes.
