Virtual Art : From Illusion to ImmersionTools Grau, Oliver. Virtual Art : From Illusion to Immersion. Cambridge, MA: MIT Press, 2003.
Abstract (English)In this book, Grau brings an historical understanding to a seemingly new medium by defining virtuality as an illusory, immersive environment, from the frescoed rooms of antiquity, Baroque churches, and panoramas of the 19th century to contemporary virtual art. Drawing parallels between eras, he sketches in the social structure in which these works are located, and underscores the ideology operative behind works of such convincing verisimilitude.
