Abstract (English)

"Recently Hutchings has turned exclusively to painting as a means of exploring the human figure as a social stereotype or symbol which has the potential to convey a kind of power which may be perceived as disturbing because of the social conventions we bring to our understanding of the work. Apprehensions features four of Stephen Hutchings' large scale oil on canvas paintings. Crouching Man, Man with Rifle, Conversation with Giants, and Bride." - page 2-3.
