Abstract (English)

"The theme of this year's Turku Biennal is 'Surface'. Thirteen artists examine this topi, each from their own perspective. The title challenges the creator and the viewer to to consider not only surface, but also what is underneath : what is the surface covering, protecting or coating. What is it concealing and why? Superficiality is a qualifier related to the word 'surface', depth its opposite. 'Surface' as the theme of the Biennial exhibition is a very successful choice for these times." -- p. 9.
