Abstract (English)

"Terms of Engagement: Avers, feldman-kiss, Stimson presents work by three Canadian artists who were deployed to conflict zones between 2009 and 2011 as participants in the Canadian Forces Artists Program (CFAP). Exemplifying CFAP’s arms-length relationship to artists, their diverse responses explore narratives of genocide, the traumatic legacy of colonialism and the War on Terror. With the works in the show encompassing a varied array of media including photography, video, painting, drawing and installation, Terms of Engagement offers a multifaceted and critical engagement with Canada’s international role as a nation of warriors and peacekeepers.
