Abstract (English)"This catalogue documents two exhibitions: Dunlop Art Gallery’s Tragedy Plus Time and AKA artist-run’s I Laughed, I Cried, I Split My Side. These exhibitions employed different points of view to critically examine the application of humour in the practices of 21 Canadian and international artists and collectives. The artists in I Laughed, I Cried, I Split My Side take up what curator Dagmara Genda calls “the horrible, absurd laugh,” riding a tension between humour and horror, while the artists in Tragedy Plus Time consider humour as a coping mechanism or soothing balm, and the notion of humour as “a release in possession of latent malice that appears seemingly benign.” -- Publisher's website.
