Abstract (English)" In 1956, Ed Rusha drove from Oklahoma City to Los Angeles in a 1950 Ford sedan. That approximately 1,350 mile journey, which roughly followed Route 66 through western Oklahoma, North Texas, New Mexico, Arizona, and into the California basin, was seminal in putting Rusha's career in motion literally. He would move to L.A. to study art and become one of the city's most prominent artists. That trip was also a conceptual trigger. To imagine yourself experiencing the American West from the windshield of a car is to come closer to understanding Rusha's peripatetic vision of the world. Many of the themes and motifs that Rusha has explored over his five-decade career point back to his driving experiences and especially the roadside landscape that he encountered at that formative moment in his life. This catalogue features key works inspired by the artist's love of driving in Los Angeles and the Western United States. " -- p. [4] of cover.
