Abstract (English)

"'The Desire to Acquire' encompasses almost two hundred works of art, ranging from nineteenth-century portraits by members of our city's vital art scene, to paintings by the Group of Seven, Painters Eleven, and Quebec abstractionists; from London's Regionalists to a selection of nationally regarded contemporary works. Together, they reflect the tastes, concerns, and talent of our citizens, the passion of individual collectors, the importance of aficionados, and the central, if sometimes overlooked, part that collectors play in the larger art world." -- p. 5.
