Abstract (English)

"FUCKING IMMIGRANT is a poem booklet containing a namesake piece. Both a love and a hate letter to being “québécoise”, it speaks up on being taught how to integrate (read assimilate) white society, knowing how to and refusing to. The choice of writing in English is painfully deliberate, as it is centered around a francophone experience and the traumas surrounding it. This piece is embracing fears of being what immigrants shouldn’t be, looking white people in the eyes and claiming respect in foreign tongues, taking down posters of french-speaking monetized diverse youth and archiving their overachieving efforts to paint the walls with unapologetic marginality." -- Artist's website.
