Abstract (English)Fox questions the concept of Japanese art as a colonial variant of western styles. Rather, he suggests that these sculptures, which are elemental in material and direct in execution, evolve out of Japanese traditions, such as Zen Buddhism and Shinto, which consider humanity as part of nature.
