Joice Hall : FloatingTools Tivy, Sandra. Joice Hall : Floating. Lethbridge, Alta: Southern Alberta Art Gallery, 1987.
Abstract (English)Tivy's essay traces Hall's career from her early representations of stylized figures in floral patterns to the exploration of the image of the male nude, all within the context of the artist's interest in creating art based on personal consciousness and experience. In the 16-panel painting installation of this exhibition, layers of meaning are identified in the composition and surface treatment of a floating figure in landscape. Allegorical and metaphorical possibilities in the images are discussed. Illustrations of the entire installation. Biographical notes. 5 bibl. ref.
