Abstract (English)

In their simplified composition, associative power and feminine imagery, the landscape of Calgary artist Milne might be considered symbolist. Tivy contextualizes the work within a broad range of sources and precedents: early 20th Century Canadian and American landscape painting, Scandinavian symbolism, post-impressionism and the St. Yves painters William Scott and Ben Nicholson. Biographical notes. 10 bibl. ref.
