Abstract (English)

Conceived in response to the Calgary Winter Olympics Games held in February 1988, the group exhibition "Heroics" was curated around definitions of heroism and the hero in contemporary culture. Each of the six pieces in the exhibition address issues of spectacle and power from different sociopolitical perspectives and in different media. Critical essays by Tuer and Zaslove undertake discussions of war and sport, history, technology, intervention crisis, physical strenght and youth. Biographical notes.

Résumé

Conçue en réponse aux Jeux Olympiques d'Hiver de Calgary tenus en février 1988, l'exposition de groupe "Heroics" gravite autour des notions d'héroïsme et de héros tels que définis dans la culture contemporaine. Chacune des six pièces de l'exposition s'attarde aux concepts de spectacle et de puissance selon différentes perspectives sociopolitiques et à travers différents médias. Guerre, sport, histoire, technologie, intervention en période de crise, force physique et jeunesse sont autant de thèmes abordés par Tuer et Zaslove. Notices biographiques.
