Abstract (English)

In a biographical account, Compton traces the influences of Surrealism, Marxism and Pop Art on Broodthaers' work. Crimp writes that by acknowledging the status of art as a commodity and the museum as art's institutional frame, Broodthaers demonstrates how museums reinforce bourgeois ideologies. Jenkins discusses the artist's films. Circa 200 bibl. ref.
