Abstract (English)

McEvilley surveys Kapoor's sculpture from 1980 to 1990, focusing on how his work reflects modernism's aspirations towards transcendence, by evoking a timeless place in the subconscious, while seemingly dematerializing the object through the use of powdered pigments. Referring to colour, sexuality, transcendence and the void, Kapoor and Allthorpe-Guyton discuss his relationship to modernism. Biographical notes. Circa 100 bibl. ref.
