Abstract (English)

“Twenty Dreams is a two-part experiment. The first part, the narrative within, addresses some of the limitations and possibilities of theorizing climate catastrophe and ecocide alongside race and racism. The second part centres bookmaking and book design, honouring a range of black creative practices which can be gleaned in self-publishing, the circulation of activist pamphlets, the beauty of first editions, cherished worn paperbacks, and more. Working with Cristian Ordóñez, the design of Twenty Dreams is animated by lists, dreams and daydreams, rest, wire bees, thread, black, yellow, and white paper and print, and a tactile cover, all of which loop back to the narrative and signal, if only for a moment, an aesthetics of renewal.

The first run of Twenty Dreams was a limited-edition sewn-bound hardcover printed by The Gas Company in Toronto. This first run, not for sale, was mailed to colleagues, comrades, artists, galleries, and libraries in Autumn 2024.

This second run of Twenty Dreams is a sewn perfect bound softcover, signed by the author, also printed by The Gas Company. This second edition is for sale, with a portion of the proceeds going to The Beverley School, in Toronto, to support the building of their sensory room for kids with special needs.” Distributor's website.
