Abstract (English)

"Initially trained as a painter in Beirut, artist Mounira Al Solh left Lebanon and continued her studies in Amsterdam. This positioning provided a distance that allowed her to reflect on her homeland and on the Arab world, while also observing her surroundings in the West with the detached eye of an outsider. Through her art practice, Al Solh documents oral traditions and untold stories, in particular giving a voice to women in the Arab world whose resilience and power is often overlooked. Her oeuvre is both personal and political, seductive as well as activist. This publication designed by Irma Boom Office honours the Lebanese-Dutch artist for her winning the eleventh ABN AMRO Art Award." -- Publisher's website.
