Abstract (English)

Ferguson considers Sawchuk's early exposure to catholicism and bolchevism as the source for the dialectic inquiry which informs his sculpture, and interprets the artist's use of found objects, modified using hand tools, as a manifestation of working-class consciousness. In interview with Baxter, Sawchuk discusses religion, politics, and art. Biographical notes. 15 bibl. ref.
