Abstract (English)

Grynsztejn's essay voices Small's feminist reading of the cultural and literary racism, puritanism, exploitation and romanticism that link 17th century "captivity" stories with contemporary pulp fiction ("bodice-ripper" novels), the motifs of which the artist collages together into three wall-mural installations: "The Woods," "Captivity Narratives," and "Our Bodice". 7 bibl. ref.
