Abstract (English)Rainbird's essay provides a narrative of Richter's artistic development and influences. Germer assesses the painter's production in terms of the artist's historical, philosophical and aesthetic awareness of his medium, its function and reception. Ascherson discusses Richter's identity in the social and political context of postwar Germany.
