Abstract (English)

A catalogue made to accompany an exhibition examining the critical/aesthetic strategies employed in the visual culture of Halifax-based Queer communities. J. Kansas recounts her involvement in queer activism and personal experiences of coming out. Metcalfe's survey of queer cultural production foregrounds the activities of organizations such as GAE, GALA, and APPLE. Homosexuality, AIDS activism and essentialist concepts of identity are discussed in relation to agitprop and fine art display practices. J. MacSwain considers lesbian/gay media arts events from 1982-96. Includes videography/filmography. List of works. Biographical notes on authors. 55 bibl. ref.
