Abstract (English)Produced for an exhibition that aims at understanding why “the beaver continues to function as a potent cultural signifier,” this catalogue presents the works of 13 artists who used the animal’s image to go beyond its common applications, investigating its metaphorical potential. Co-curator Fleming traces the beaver’s historical and symbolic importance in Canada, while Diamond (co-curator) comments on each of the works (installation, digital imagery, sculpture, ink on paper, drawing, and photography).
